Dad got a new sweater vest for Christmas. It's very Tressely; that is, it's just the kind of thing Jim Tressel, the coach of the Ohio State football team, wears all the time. Remember that strange period of time in the nineties when Jennifer Aniston would periodically sport a new hairstyle or fashion on Friends, and instantly every young woman in America would run to the salon and/or Gap to make sure she matched? Nowadays Jim Tressel is the Jennifer Aniston of Ohio middle-aged men.

In case you haven't been following football, it's a great time to be a Buckeye fan. After an undefeated season, Ohio State is playing the national championship game tonight.

It's amazing how insane Ohio is right now. The Columbus Dispatch pretty much had a story on the team every single day I was home, even when the championship game was weeks away. My brother says they have three beat reporters assigned to OSU football alone, which is unheard of. The other strange thing about Ohio is that tons of people root for OSU who didn't even go to school there (my family, for example). I'm not sure, but I think that's unique, even in big football areas. There are a lot of Texas fans in Houston, but the majority are alumni, as far as I can see. People don't root for UT just because they live in Texas. Then again, Houston isn't Austin. If I lived as close to Austin as my family lives to Columbus, maybe I would see more Texas craziness.

Alas, I'm in Houston with no Ohioans in sight. I think I'll go to BW3's. I'm sure they'll have it on.
